Regularly setting up restore points on your Windows PC is an excellent preventive measure. It allows you to roll back your system to a stable configuration in case something goes wrong — whether due to a bad update, driver issue, or software conflict.
This guide explains how to create and restore these points step by step.
TO CREATE A RESTORE POINT
-
Open System Restore Settings
Go to the Windows search bar, type “Restore Point”, and select the matching option from the results.
-
Select the Drive and Create
In the System Protection tab, locate your primary local drive (usually the one where Windows is installed). Highlight it, then click “Create.”
-
Name and Confirm
Provide a short name or description to identify the restore point — for example, “Before driver update” — and confirm to start creating it.
Windows will generate the restore point and notify you once the process is complete.
HOW TO USE A RESTORE POINT
-
Access the System Restore Menu
Open the search bar again, type “Restore Point,” and select the same settings panel. -
Start System Restore
Click the “System Restore” button. -
Select a Restore Point
Choose “Select a different restore point” to view all available options. -
Restore Your System
Pick the restore point you wish to return to, follow the on-screen steps, and let Windows complete the restoration process.
Once finished, your computer will restart and revert to the chosen configuration.
